Oxfordshire YFC County Show & Rally

05 June 2018

Oxfordshire YFC County Show & Rally, hosted by the Witney Young Farmers Club last weekend, raised over £30,000 for charity with more than 5,000 people passing through the gate.

People turned out in the thousands for the promised day of fun for all the family, and there was plenty going on for everyone to see and do - no matter what their age - all day long. Witney YFC had organised an action packed day with displays and attractions including Terrier Racing, Sheep Dogs, a Dog Show, Sheep Racing, Vintage Tractors, Suffolk Punch heavy horses, Sheep Shearing; and a fantastic turn out from local machinery dealers with modern farm equipment for the public to see. There were plenty of animals to see and touch, a craft and farmers market, and the Oxfordshire Scouts had laid on a climbing wall.

The Young Farmer members had a superb display of their competition entries in an enormous marquee on the site, and they entertained the crowds with their practical competitions which included go-kart racing, brick laying, scarecrows, home-made flags, an obstacle race and a spectacular parade of floats pulled along by tractors.

Patrick Hook, Chair of the organising committee said:

"We are extremely grateful to everyone who has supported our Oxfordshire YFC County Show again this year, and to the people who came out in such huge numbers to share the day with us. Knowing that our hard work, and everyone’s support, has raised a really useful amount of money for charity is what it's all about.

"Organising the County Show each year requires a big team effort and the Witney Club supporters can now hand the baton on to next year’s organisers from Faringdon Young Farmer’s Club who have already started planning for their event on Sunday 26 May 2019. Make a note in the diary now."

Oxfordshire's Young Farmers Clubs have nearly 400 members and were recently awarded a national prize for the county federation with largest increase (25%) in membership numbers over the last three years.
